(Insert Name Here…)

September 14, 2011 by Carly Jones

Sorry I’ve been MIA for a bit. My life got a little bit overwhelming over the past couple of weeks, and I just had to unplug… from EVERYTHING! It helped that I went to camp and have been on vacation some (still am)… I thought my first post back would be about one of these adventures. But it’s not…

SOLO – I’ve mentioned this devotional by Eugene Peterson before, it’s the one my church is doing.

SOLO Day 39: John 17

Read John 17:20-23, 26 – and insert your name (or your name with “all of them”) when you read they or them.

Jesus’ prayer all the sudden comes 100% personal and 100% more impactful.

He prayed for me.

Check it out:

I’m praying not only for them
But also for Carly, who will believe in me
Because of Carly and her witness about me.
The goal is for Carly and all of the believers to become one heart and mind –
Just as you, Father are in me and I in you,
So Carly and all of them might be one heart and mind with us.
Then the world may believe that you, in fact, sent me.
The same glory you gave me, I give Carly,
So she and all other believers will be as unified together as we are –
I in them and you in me.
Then Carly will be mature with them in this oneness,
And give the godless world evidence
That you’ve sent me and loved each one of them
In the same way you’ve loved me.

I have made your very being known to Carly –
Who you are and what you do -
And continue to make it known,
So that your love for me
Might be in her
Exactly as I am in Carly.

Now change my name to your name and see for yourself what it’s like to be prayed for by Jesus, the Son of God.

He is in your heart.

(No worries there will be posts about camp and vacation to come.)

  1. Dad says:

Enjoyed reading Jesus’s prayer with my name in it … to think that Jesus is with me everyday and does in deed pull (pray) for us is a bit humbling and certainly beyond my comprehension. But, the neat thing is that we see so many ways he has our backs every day and in everyway…. Dad
